Hi Hanstler! Nice to talk with you!
First, thank you for the interview. For me it is a pleasure to share with you about my life, professional career and how music has improved my best version of myself.
1. Can you tell us about the moment you first discovered techno—and how it became your voice?
It all started when I attended a techno music event in 2020. It was an experience where I was able to perceive the deep sounds of this genre that brought me to a state of maximum concentration. That was the moment that changed my life. With my background in electronic music production, I began to create my own version of this musical style. Thanks to the support of several artists, such as Barbuto, I had the opportunity to publicize my productions and expand my presence on the world stage.
2. How does music help you express or process what you experience in daily life?
I have Asperger's syndrome, which makes it difficult for me to interact with trust and affection. Music is my tool to communicate and be empathetic, even with those I don't know. It's vital for my mental health, helping me release problems.
3. You’ve been producing and DJing for over 12 years—what kept you going during the most challenging times?
I have been a producer and DJ for almost 15 years. The most difficult moments were when I started to see it as a business, which frustrated me because I didn't have the economic stability of my job as an engineer. I stopped enjoying music and producing became tedious. I decided to see it again as a hobby, and I started to have more success and better ideas for my productions. I don't lose hope of making a living from this one day, but I want to do it only if it's the best path for me and I'll be happy to take it.
4. Does your background in electronic engineering influence how you approach music production?
Yes, right! Knowledge of the frequencies and behavior of electronics and electricity allows us to understand how sound waves work through our ears and how different harmonics affect sound, thus causing an auditory work of art. Studying electronic engineering has contributed significantly to my ability to create electronic music.
5. How would you describe the evolution of your sound over the years? Are there any signatures that define “Hanstler”?
It has been very great, the contribution of technology and more than that knowing how to use it propose your favor so are effective. In the same way, the sound that you handle, matures a lot over time and you have a clearer idea of your essence and in fact a few years ago when I started, I told my loved ones that I wanted Hanstler to have his own sound. After a long time, I achieved it and now, despite using better synthesizers and a bit of analog, good digital technology, I always try to maintain that soul and who I am.
6. Do you approach creating music more from a feeling, a concept, or a structure? I think more because of feeling. I let everything flow.
7. When you play a DJ set, what matters more to you—technical precision or emotional impact?
Both, it is especially important to have good technique to have more confidence on stage.
8. What’s your favorite piece of gear or plugin right now—and why?
Korg Minilogue XD and Serum VST.

9. Do you feel the electronic music world is becoming more inclusive for neurodivergent artists? What would you like to see more of?
It's a duty for me. Being part of this spectrum, my job is to link this entire community. I have lived beautiful experiences where I have been able to create inclusion.
10. Are there specific sounds, frequencies, or textures you’re naturally drawn to because of how you experience the world?
Yes, but I can't explain which ones, it's a very sensory issue.
11. Do you feel techno helps you connect with people in a way that words sometimes can’t?
Absolutely, or explain in a previous question. For me it is the best way to communicate with others.
12. What’s the techno scene like in Costa Rica right now? How has it grown since you started?
Unfortunately, I thought it had been growing, but it hasn't been like that. The Costa Rican public still does not support its own artists, and it is difficult to be considered by event organizers. Nowadays it is more important to look like something, than to have talent.
13. What’s one thing the world should know about Latin American underground culture?
One thing that is clear is that this culture has existed for a long time. By this I mean that you have a well-lit audience for the duration of the event!
14. Bringing your essence to the farthest corners of the underground—what does that essence sound and feel like?
Yes, I have, it is wonderful, but the support is unfortunately little.
15. What’s one message you hope people feel when they hear a Hanstler track for the first time?
I hope that with my music you feel the possibility of being totally concentrated, but lucid to smile, to share and to be able to get the best out of yourself. It doesn't matter if it was a bad day.
16. Where do you see your path leading in the next few years—more releases, touring, collaborations?
Definitely, many more releases and collaborations. My gap is touring. I must work on it.
17. If you could design your dream event or stage setup to fully represent your vision, what would it look like?
It would be an event broadcast live under the name "XONE506 Event", 12 hours of guest DJs and another room with demonstration of demos, products, classes etc.
Thank you for the interview and we wish you all the best for the rest of 2025!
